The Rebbe consistently campaigned for every Jew to increase in learning Torah and Chassidus. “Torah study every day is crucial to life itself. This applies not only to the soul of the one studying but also to the souls of his family. For then, through Torah study, the atmosphere of the home becomes an atmosphere of Torah and piety.”

In thousands of letters the Rebbe highlighted the importance of learning Chitas every day. Chitas stands for Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya. We say the portion of the Chumash according to the day of the week, the portion of Tehillim (after Davening) as it is divided according to the days of the month, and the portion of Tanya as it is divided according to the days of the year. The word “Chitas” comes from a verse in Chumash B’reishis which describes Yaakov’s journeys in Israel – “The fear (Chitas) of G-d was over the cities.” When we learn Chitas, it draws down many blessings for us.

The Rebbe also founded ‘The Daily Rambam’ learning schedule, tens of thousands of Jews around the globe are learning the Rambam’s Mishneh Torah (Yad HaChazaka) gaining a comprehensive overview of all the Torah’s laws.
