The Greeks valued wisdom and culture, but denied G-d;
Their initial friendliness was merely a façade.
Their goal was to assimilate the Jews – hence the ploy:
They defiled all that was holy, and didn’t actually destroy.
The Jews responded with self sacrifice that went beyond the norm,
And therefore, unlimited miracles G-d did perform.
We add a candle every night,
We aren’t satisfied with yesterday’s light.
For it isn’t enough to do what we already know,
The goal of a Jew is to constantly grow.
