Birthday Facts

Every year, we celebrate our Jewish birthday in order to thank G-d for the beautiful miracle of being born, and being alive to this day! This is a very special day for us, because our Mazal is very powerful. That’s why we want it to be packed with Torah, Mitzvos, and good deeds. Men are called up to the Torah on the Shabbos preceding their birthday.

The following is a list of some of the customs that you should try to accomplish on your actual Jewish birthday.

  1. Give extra Tzeddaka. 2. Pray with extra concentration. 3. Say your new chapter of Tehillim (Psalms). 4. Learn extra Torah. 5. Learn a Chassidic Discourse by heart and repeat it to friends. 6. Influence others to increase in Torah study. 7. Make a “Cheshbon Nefesh” – a soul accounting, of the past year; those actions that call for rectification or repentance, one should repent and rectify them. 8. Take upon yourself a new resolution. 9. Make a joyous gathering with family and friends in which praises to G-d and words of Torah are shared. If possible, attempt to eat a new fruit on which it is possible to make the blessing “shehechiyanu.”
